DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Prosecutor III represents the Community in the litigation of the more complex criminal complaints and works with the US Attorney’s Office to ensure serious crimes are federally prosecuted. The Prosecutor III will assist in training of the junior prosecuting attorneys, and must be intimately familiar with professional responsibilities as an attorney.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Represent the Community in special prosecutions, high profile cases, complex criminal complaints and other matters as assigned.
  • Represent the Community in the Community courts at all stages of criminal and civil cases in which the Community is the plaintiff or petitioner.
  • Represents the community in Court at arraignments/initial hearings, pretrial/status conferences, review and evidentiary hearings and trials/adjudications in which the Community is the plaintiff or petitioner as assigned, must be largely independent in such abilities.
  • Represent the Community in multidisciplinary meetings with the US Attorney’s Office to ensure serious crimes are federally prosecuted.
  • Conduct legal research, analysis and document production related to the litigation of criminal cases in the Community courts.
  • Draft legal pleadings for the Community in criminal and civil cases.
  • Gather and analyze evidence in criminal cases.
  • Maintain case files, calendars and databases for criminal cases.
  • Assist in the development, revision and modification of the Community’s laws, resolutions and ordinances.
  • Represent the Community at meetings, court proceedings and other functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA accredited law school and current membership in good standing with the Arizona State Bar; minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed attorney with specialized and significant experience as an attorney in criminal litigation, including trial experience preferably.

Occupational Program Director – Tribal Court Advocacy Certificate
Scottsdale Community College

The Tribal Court Advocacy Program at SCC is designed to prepare students for careers as tribal court advocates and/or to work in settings that involve Native American legal issues. The occupational program director assumes a leadership role in the administration of the program, outreach to prospective students, advisement of students and the hiring and training of adjunct faculty to teach in the program. The primary focus of the position rests with program management and the program director reports through SCC’s Administration of Justice department.

Qualifications
For the 2018-2019 academic year, the program director’s primary areas of responsibilities will be in the outreach, marketing, and delivery of the workshops preparing prospective students. For the 2019-2020 academic year, it is expected that the program director teaches at least two courses in the program/semester in addition to program administration.

Education & Work Experience

  • Master’s degree/graduate degree in field related and applicable to the practice of tribal court advocacy OR
  • A master’s in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours related and applicable to the practice of tribal court advocacy OR
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years work experience as a tribal court advocate OR
  • Associate’s degree or 64 semester hours and 5 years work experience as a tribal court advocate.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience teaching/training working with others to facilitate professional/personal development
  • Experience successfully leading, managing, and coordinating multiple tasks and projects
  • Experience working with others in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills

Compensation
Program director compensation is paid at the Maricopa adjunct faculty rate of $925/load hour.
It is anticipated the program director will work anywhere from 6-9 load hours per semester.

  • 6-9 load hours = 12-18 hours/week on program responsibilities, teaching, and tasks.

There is an expectation that the program director will be available to work in the summer. Summer compensation will be determined based upon program needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social or Behavioral Science, Law Enforcement, Justice Studies, Criminal Justice & Criminology or a closely related field.

  • A Master’s degree in a closely related field is preferred.

Experience: 5 years demonstrated successful experience in one of the following disciplines: health & human services, law enforcement pertaining to family/domestic violence, or legal services preferably in a family advocacy related specialty.

  • 3 years supervisory experience required.
  • Integrative experience with HHS, legal and Police/investigative processes required.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with HHS, child and adult protection services, domestic and elder abuse, crisis management and law enforcement entities required.
