Job Description

Under general supervision of the Managing Defense Attorney, represents Community members facing a variety of criminal, juvenile, and traffic charges before the Tribal Court. Interviews clients and witnesses and performs legal research work to obtain information necessary to prepare an appropriate defense for assigned clients before the Tribal Court.2. Files motions and meets with the Community Prosecutor on pending cases.3 Prepares briefs, case files, and various other records to support the defense of the client and document case status/progress.4. Represents clients both adult and juvenile in criminal proceedings such as Bench Trials, Jury Trials and Adjudications.5. Performs other job-related duties that enhance and facilitate departmental operations.
Skills/Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college of law with a Juris Doctor degree and 2-3 years of Tribal Advocacy work experience, highly desirable. If not a member of the Arizona State Bar, must be willing to take and pass the Arizona State Bar within one year of employment with the community. Job Description

Under general supervision of the General Counsel or designee, represents the Community in civil matters and performs other legal tasks within the SRPMIC government. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.Tasks: 1. Under supervision of the supervising attorney, appears and represents the SRPMIC in civil matters before the SRPMIC Court, including the SRPMIC Appellate Court and in administrative proceedings and other similar settings. Prepares cases and advocates for the Community and its departments, divisions and enterprises. Advises clients, both orally and in writing, regarding case progress.2. Under supervision, conducts legal research and analysis, performs factual investigations and analysis, and prepares legal memoranda, pleadings and motions, as directed.3. Ensures that files are kept and maintained in a timely and professional manner.4. Maintains confidences with all clients, office staff and work related issues.5. Under supervision, assists in training and updating departments on statutory or case law changes.6. Failure to successfully complete training may be a condition for termination and/or repayment of costs. Successful completion of any test established by the SRPMIC related to the practice of laws in the SRPMIC Court. Community Code requires that a Community Court Advocate be an enrolled member of SRPMIC.

JOB: Attorney – Indian law Resource Center

ATTORNEY

Position Description and Criteria
The Indian Law Resource Center is now considering applications for an attorney
position in the Washington, D.C. office. The attorney will provide legal assistance to
indigenous nations and tribes in matters relating to indigenous rights, tribal sovereignty
and international human rights, and will play a role in carrying out all of the legal
programs of the Indian Law Resource Center. The attorney will work under the
supervision of the Executive Director and with the assistance of other Center attorneys
and professional staff.

Substantial interest and experience in federal Indian law and indigenous legal issues is
important, with experience working on international human rights and environmental
law preferred. Third year law students are encouraged to apply. The ability to travel is
