Pipeline to Law Workshop at University of South Dakota – Sept. 16-17
This fall the Native American Pipeline to Law team will host sessions in three different states to help students better understand the law school admissions process. Attend a session at Michigan State University Law, University of South Dakota Law or Arizona State University Law. As an Attorney-Adviser with the Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor, Intermountain Region, Salt Lake City Regional Office located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Duties:
- Providing advice and general legal services on matters pertaining to procurement and related matters (financial assistance, interagency agreements, 638 contracts) and laws of general applicability to federal agencies such as the Freedom of Information Act, and Federal Tort Claims Act, and federal appropriation laws.
- Providing litigation support on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior and Interior agencies, primarily the Bureau of Reclamation, to the Department of Justice, and reviewing and analyzing draft legislation and agency policy guidance.
- Applying knowledge federal contracts, financial assistance, and cooperative agreements; federal and state litigation procedure; the ability to analyze legal requirements and succinctly provide advice and counsel to technical/non-legal professionals; and the ability to interact and negotiate with outside entities, including Tribes, States, and local governmental entities, regarding contracts, agreements, and other matters; reclamation law; water law; the federal Indian trust responsibility and statutes relating to interactions between the federal government and Tribes; federal environmental laws.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have a minimum of seven (7) years of legal experience, ten (10) years of legal experience preferred; supervisory experience preferred; demonstrated experience in complex legal research and analysis, and advising senior officials or clients; and have excellent writing and communication skills, and a strong academic record.
