Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director: coordinates and conducts archival and on-line research for special management, policy and research activities; creates and maintains databases and spreadsheets of data; assists in generating graphic and other reports from the data; participates on project and initiative teams resulting in recommending solutions or alternative; may train or coordinate work of team members; analyzes data and information; assists in writing proposals, research progress and other reports; develops flyers and outreach materials using various graphics programs; designs and modifies questionnaires and evaluation forms and summarizes and analyzes responses; makes recommendations to management, public/private sector representatives and external constituencies, in coordination with director; performs administrative functions such as setting up meetings of key personnel, including developing agendas, as well as scheduling guest speakers for programs and developing itineraries for high level visitors and guests; assists in preparation and editing of papers for publication and for presentations. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in research, information analysis or program evaluation; OR, Master’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience in research, information analysis or program evaluation; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of: a post-undergraduate degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of: research design and methodologies for policy, social science and other relevant fields; knowledge of federal Indian policy. Experience in: report writing; working with tribal governments; working with people of diverse backgrounds.

The American Indian Policy Institute conducts tribally-driven participatory research in which tribal governments and American Indian communities determine the priorities and seek out research partners within the university.  The American Indian Policy Institute seeks to develop creative policy options and provide technical assistance to solve long-standing and emerging problems in American Indian affairs at the tribal, national, and state and local levels.
