Adams St.<br \/>\nPhoenix, AZ 85007<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 660px\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">JOB SUMMARY&amp; DUTIES<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections enhances public protection by changing the delinquent thinking and behaviors of juvenile offenders committed to the Department.We are seeking a Chief Hearing Officer to work under the direction of the Administrative Counsel. This position is responsible for the administration of due process, as required by law and dictated by the decision being made, for certain decisions the Agency makes regarding the youth committed to its jurisdiction. Additionally, this position assists the Administrative Counsel in addressing general legal issues and inquiries.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develops, reviews, revises policies and procedures, and practices for the administration<\/li>\n<li>Conducts due process proceedings including approval of warrants and citations, suspension and revocation of conditional liberty, restrictive placement, discharge, secure care disciplinary infractions, and restitution<\/li>\n<li>Supervises, trains and evaluates the Youth Hearing Officer<\/li>\n<li>Establishes and provides training<\/li>\n<li>Communicates with the Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/li>\n<li>Conducts legal research<\/li>\n<li>Writes legal memoranda<\/li>\n<li>Responds and addresses general legal inquiries and issues<\/li>\n<li>Attends meetings and participates in work teams<\/li>\n<li>Creates and maintains hearing reports and statistical summaries<\/li>\n<li>Performs other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">Knowledge of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diverse areas of law, including administrative, correctional, constitutional, juvenile, criminal, dependency, public records, tort, contract, education, health and employment<\/li>\n<li>Rules of Criminal and Juvenile Procedure<\/li>\n<li>Arizona Revised Statutes<\/li>\n<li>Court and administrative processes<\/li>\n<li>Methods and techniques of legal research<\/li>\n<li>State and Federal litigation processes, preparation, management, and filing system in both simple and complex litigation<\/li>\n<li>Basic office software, such as Microsoft Office Programs<\/li>\n<li>Leadership and management\/supervision principles<\/li>\n<li>Training development and implementation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Skill in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administrative hearing processes<\/li>\n<li>Developing reports<\/li>\n<li>Drafting and preparing complex legal memoranda, forms and documents<\/li>\n<li>Conducting comprehensive legal research<\/li>\n<li>Developing and maintaining a large volume of document systems<\/li>\n<li>Verbal and written communication<\/li>\n<li>Analytical processing<\/li>\n<li>Developing and conducting training<\/li>\n<li>Time management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ability to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify, analyze and organize a large volume of evidence, complex legal issues and documents<\/li>\n<li>Interact effectively with the Attorney General\u2019s Office, courts and other legal offices, the public and Department staff<\/li>\n<li>Coach, train and educate subordinate staff and employees on law-related topics<\/li>\n<li>Work independently to complete complex projects<\/li>\n<li>Engage in constructive problem solving and build consensus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">\n<ul>\n<li>Requires possession of, and ability to retain, a current valid Arizona-issued drivers license.\u00a0 Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license records checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).<\/li>\n<li>Must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.); AND a current license to practice law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">SELECTIVE PREFERENCE <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">\n<ul>\n<li>The preferred candidate will have at least five (5) years experience in the practice of law, including juvenile or criminal law, administrative hearing and litigation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\">BENEFITS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"660\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/span>We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes sick leave, vacation and 10 holidays per year; health and dental insurance; life insurance; and long-term disability insurance.
