$118,975.00 Annually<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>OPENING DATE:<\/strong> 05\/15\/12<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>CLOSING DATE:<\/strong> 06\/16\/12\u00a011:59 PM<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>DEFINITION: <\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Under the administrative supervision from the Chief Judge, provides legal review and advice to Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) Court.\u00a0Through legal expertise with the Indian law and general principles of the law, provides research for the Court Judges, working to assist the Judges in resolving legal issues as they arise.\u00a0Ensures that Community\u2019s Constitution and applicable laws are followed, and that due process principles are applied to ensure the fair and reasonable administration of justice of the matters pending before the Court.\u00a0Promotes the professional development of Court Staff and Judges by organizing training activities and collecting and distributing information on federal Indian Law and tribal law developments and best practices in tribal justice systems.\u00a0<strong>This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt and may be required to work evenings, weekends, and non standard work schedule.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>EXAMPLES OF TASKS:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Essential Functions<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong>Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics.\u00a0This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Tasks:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Researches issues involved in criminal, civil and juvenile court litigation, court orders, protocol(s) and processes, and provide legal advice and recommendations to Judges in all related matters.\u00a0Conducts legal research and analysis, as directed by supervisor.\u00a0Researches legal documents as directed by supervisor, to ensure the fair and reasonable administration of justice as provided for by the Community\u2019s Constitution, the Indian Civil Rights Act and other applicable law.\u00a0Reviews laws, rules, regulations and related legal documents as directed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Review files and advises Judges of legal issues that may come before the court.\u00a0Provides legal guidance on related matters that come before the Community court, using tribal and other applicable laws and principles of law and due process.\u00a0May draft legal documents and administrative polices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures continued communication with Judges, Court officers, and other staff as appropriate.\u00a0Works with the Chief Judge and Court Administration in reviewing and improving court policies procedures, forms and operations as assigned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assists in preparation of legal and technical correspondence for officers of the Court and other individuals as directed by supervisor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Develops forms and other systems to ensure consistency, efficiency, and transparency in the work of the Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Administers the system for admitting practitioners to the Court and promotes professional interaction among the Court\u2019s staff and practitioners including the development of a Code of conduct for judges, attorneys, and advocates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Serves as a liaison for the Court (on legal issues) with the Community\u2019s Office of the General Counsel and other legal offices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Serves as a facilitator and assists the Chief Judge in management of the Community Court Rules Committee and completes all assigned tasks related thereto as directed by supervisor\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oversees and supervise the subordinate court solicitor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0Identifies and conducts relevant training (both internal and external) for tribal court judges and court staff at the request of the Chief Judge and Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Performs other job related duties, as assigned, that enhance and facilitate departmental operations.\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Education &amp; Experience<\/strong>:\u00a0A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, with a minimum of seven years attorney experience, with three of the seven years practicing before or working in a state or federal court setting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Demonstrated experience in federal Indian law is required.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Preference given to candidates with prior judicial experience, either as Judge or Judicial Clerk, in a legal capacity.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Must be admitted and in good standing with a State Bar, preferably the Arizona State Bar, and Federal District Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Must not have any prior felony convictions, prior misdemeanor convictions in any jurisdiction within the last seven (7) years, and any disbarment or current suspension from any other tribal, state or federal courts.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Must attend a minimum of 15 hours annual continuing legal education as related to job and approved by supervisor.\u00a0<br \/>\nEquivalency \u2013 Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required may be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
