For nearly 50 years the Navajo and Hopi residents of Black Mesa have made it possible for the major cities in the Southwest — Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and Los Angeles \u2014 to flourish while they suffer pollution, cancer, and environmental devastation brought on by a huge strip-mining operation operated by Peabody Coal Company. Black Mesa coal supplies Navajo Generating Station near Page, Arizona which serves electric customers in Arizona, Nevada and California as well as supplying energy to pump water through the Central Arizona Project. And yet, most Black Mesa residents still have no electricity and running water. POWER PATHS follows a group of Navajo and Hopi grassroots leaders who take on some of the biggest corporations in the world and even their own tribal governments to transition their fossil-fuel based economies to renewable energy.<\/p>\n
