Under the supervision of the General Counsel, this role involves providing legal review and advice to SRPMIC&#8217;s government, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, and safeguarding tribal sovereignty. The Assistant General Counsel will work on legal matters across various departments, including Public Safety, and represent the Community in legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Key Responsibilities:<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li>Offer legal counsel to SRPMIC departments and the Community Council.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct legal research and draft legal documents, ordinances, and policies.<\/li>\n<li>Represent SRPMIC in internal, external, and intergovernmental meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Supervise tribal court advocates and oversee civil litigation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Qualifications:<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li>Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of three years of experience as a licensed attorney representing Native American tribes.<\/li>\n<li>Membership in good standing with a state bar association (must pass the Arizona Bar within one year if not already a member).<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Federal Indian law and the legal framework of tribal governments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Special Requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to practice in Federal District Court.<\/li>\n<li>Subject to pre-employment drug\/alcohol testing and background check.<\/li>\n<li>Must complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing legal education annually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Equal Opportunity Employer:<\/span> Preference will be given to qualified Community Members, Veterans, Spouses of Community Members, and Native Americans.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Join SRPMIC in protecting and enhancing tribal sovereignty.
