The <strong>Washington Legislative Office (WLO)<\/strong> in the ACLU\u2019s National Office in Washington, D.C. seeks applicants for a full-time Lobbyist Assistant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lobbyist Assistant will work directly with the ACLU Legislative and\/or Policy Counsels on pending federal legislation, regulatory matters, research, and policy proposals.\u00a0 The Lobbyist Assistant will provide support to the organization\u2019s federal legislative and executive branch lobbying effort.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review and analyze current and proposed federal legislation, regulations and policies for lobbyists.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as a representative of the lobbyists in external and internal meetings including responding to questions from external sources regarding pending federal issues.<\/li>\n<li>Gather, summarize and archive federal legislative, regulatory and policy developments relevant to lobbyists\u2019 issue areas.<\/li>\n<li>Track legislation by attending Congressional hearings and using specialized congressional databases.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble and organize informational packets, binders and other necessary documents.<\/li>\n<li>Draft and proofread documents, including policy memos, talking points, correspondence to Congress and federal agencies, and other research documents as requested on federal legislative, regulatory and policy issues.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with the federal lobbyists and policy counsels to ensure the success of events and lobbying initiatives sponsored by the lobbying team.<\/li>\n<li>Provide administrative support to lobbyists.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree or a minimum of 2 years work experience supporting federal lobbyists, legislators or policy makers.<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational skills with superb attention to detail.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional writing and verbal skills; strong interpersonal skills.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of basic federal legislative, regulatory, and policy process and research tools, such as LEXIS\/NEXUS, Westlaw, CQ, Gallery Watch, and\/or Knowlegis.\u00a0 Knowledge of Bluebook form for legal citations a plus.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Internet research tools.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMPENSATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ACLU offers a generous and comprehensive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with experience and within the parameters of the ACLU compensation scale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO APPLY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please send a cover letter (with salary requirements), resume, writing sample, and three references, complete with names, addresses and employment position by email to <a href=\"mailto:hrjobsWLO@aclu.org\" target=\"_blank\">hrjobsWLO@aclu.org<\/a>.
