The attorney will provide legal assistance to<br \/>indigenous nations and tribes in matters relating to indigenous rights, tribal sovereignty<br \/>and international human rights, and will play a role in carrying out all of the legal<br \/>programs of the Indian Law Resource Center. The attorney will work under the<br \/>supervision of the Executive Director and with the assistance of other Center attorneys<br \/>and professional staff.<\/p>\n<p>Substantial interest and experience in federal Indian law and indigenous legal issues is<br \/>important, with experience working on international human rights and environmental<br \/>law preferred. Third year law students are encouraged to apply. The ability to travel is<br \/>preferred. Spanish language ability is also desirable. We provide legal help without charge to<br \/>indigenous nations and tribes in major cases involving indigenous rights, human rights,<br \/>land claims, and environmental protection. The Center seeks to overcome problems<br \/>affecting indigenous peoples by establishing national and international legal standards<br \/>that uphold indigenous human rights and dignity, strengthen indigenous selfdetermination,<br \/>and protect indigenous lands and resources.
