The Indian Legal Program at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University will host approximately 20 Tribal College and University students for a two-day experience in Indian Law on August 8th and 9th, 2007. There are currently 33 Tribal Colleges and Universities in the United States serving the higher education needs of their local Native American communities. Many of these students are interested in law school but few, if any, early college programs exist to assist these students in preparing for law school. <\/p>\n

The “Indian Law Experience for Tribal College and University Students” will begin with a sample class on Indian Law, an information session on how to apply and be accepted into law school, and tours of the campus. The highlight of the two-day program will require participants to act as tribal attorneys representing a fictional tribal government. Participants will be provided with a research packet centered on a current topic of interest in Indian Law. Current law students will serve as mentors and help participants prepare both a legal memo and a presentation based on their memo to fictional tribal councils. The Indian Law Experience will conclude with a moot court presentation by law students. <\/p>\n

However, juniors and seniors at TCUs are also encouraged to apply, as well as Native American students enrolled at other community colleges across the country and may participate if space is available. Travel, lodging and food expenses will be covered. The Indian Law Experience is hosted by the Indian Legal Program and made possible by a grant from the Bureau of Reclamation Native American education outreach programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
